AUTHOR'S NOTE: This is my very first attempt at writing SMK. This popped into my head after I watched A Lovely Little Affair this afternoon. This story takes place between Amanda and Alan's kiss at the end and the tag, and assumes that Lee saw the kiss. Unbetad as it just popped into my head and out my fingers. Comments are welcome. Flames will be used to barbecue.

A LOVELY LITTLE AFFAIR - ADDITION

Lee Stetson leaned against his Corvette as he watched the scene taking place before him. Amanda and Alan were standing close together, exchanging small smiles as they talked. He was too far away to hear what they were saying, but knowing Amanda, she was probably apologizing for having to lie to Alan.

Lee looked down at his fingernails and then raised his head, ready to walk over to Amanda and take her home. What he saw stopped him in his tracks. Amanda and Alan were kissing. It seemed as if time stood still while his brain tried to process this information. He could feel the seed of jealousy, which had been lying in the pit of his stomach since this case began, suddenly sprout and grow. He stood there for a moment, unable to move or speak.

Thoughts of how her lips would feel on his sprang unbidden to his mind. He imagined how he would kiss her, gently at first, allowing her time to get used to his lips on hers, and then increasing the pressure, probing at her lips to allow his tongue entrance......

"Lee? Are you ready to go?"

Amanda's soft voice broke into his thoughts. He shook his head violently, trying to clear it of the unwanted images. She was standing in front of him, a questioning look in her large brown eyes. Lee cleared his throat as he said, "Uh yeah.....let's go. We have to get back to the Agency."

Lee helped Amanda into the car and sped off, heading for I.F.F. They drove in silence as Lee tried to figure out what had just happened to him. Why had Amanda's kissing Alan bothered him so much? And *what* had caused him to imagine kissing her like that? His thoughts were tumbling around in his mind. " Get a grip Scarecrow. Amanda is your partner, your friend, nothing more. Ok so she's a nice dinner companion. And easy to talk too. And fun to be with. And beautiful.....Wait a minute!! Where the hell did *that* come from?? She is NOT your type Stetson. She's a housewife, a mother of two, she drives carpool and goes to PTA. She's AMANDA for pete's sake."

Lee glanced over at Amanda. She was gazing out the window, apparently lost in thought. Her heart pendant caught the sunlight and created a small rainbow on her face. His breath caught in his throat as he thought, " God she *is* beautiful."

The revelation hit him like a ton of bricks. He tore his eyes off her face and forced them back onto the road. The last thing he needed was to explain to Billy how he ran his car into a ditch because he was staring at his partner. What was he going to do now? Why would someone like Amanda even want someone like him? She was nothing like the women he normally dated. She cooked, she cleaned, she ran a household.....she was a normal person.

Normal.....something Amanda had said to him a few weeks ago came to mind. She had just met his latest girlfriend Leslie. As he was walking her to the elevator she turned and said, "She's not your type. She's normal."

Lee turned this over in his mind. Yes, Leslie was normal and fun and easy to talk to, but she just wasn't what he wanted. Close, but not quite. That was why he had broken it off. He was also tired of his Randi baby's and all the other empty-headed women who filled his four black books. He wanted someone he could count on, someone he could trust, someone who cared if he lived or died. The great Scarecrow, the loner, the maverick agent who never let anyone close to him.....he wanted *something*. He wasn't sure exactly what yet.....perhaps just a friend, perhaps more.

His gaze slid over to Amanda once more. He still had the two tickets to Verdi at the Kennedy Center in his pocket. He had intended to give them to Billy so that he and Jeannie could enjoy a night out, but maybe it was time to find out what *exactly* he wanted. He smiled to himself as he thought of how to ask her. As he pulled into the parking lot of I.F.F., Lee thought to himself, "This could be *very* interesting."
