
Colin Firth was born on September 10th, 1960. His early days was spent in Nigeria where his parents, David and Shirley, were both teachers. The family moved back to England but relocated to America before Colin was a teenager. He never quite fitted in and his childhood tough, even though they moved back to England and this time settled down.
At age 14, he decided to become an actor and enrolled at drama school and lived on a tight budget in a rundown London bedsit.
During his last year at the Drama Centre, he made his West End debut in the play, 'Another Country' and was cast in the film adaptation shortly after. TV and stage roles followed, including a high-profile part in 'The Secret Garden'. He received many critical accolades and earned himself legions of female fans.
In 1989, while filming 'Valmont', he met American actress, Meg Tilly. They lived together for five years in Canada raising their son William, before the seclusion proved too much and they split amicably.
His most well known role is probably that of Jane Austen's hero, Mr. Darcy, in the BBC adaptation of her book,
'Pride and Prejudice'. During the filming he had an affair with co-star, Jennifer Ehle (Elizabeth Bennet) but it finished and it was while filming, 'Nostromo' in 1996 that met his wife to be, Livia Giuggioli, an Italian documentary maker who has a PhD.The got married on June 21st, 1997 and had a son, Luca, in 2001.
