CHOSEN
ONE
BY JON
COWAN
ROXTON: The jungle is no place for hide
and seek and traveling alone. All
you’ll find is death.
GIDEON: You have your woman to protect.
MARGUERITE: Protect me? You think he protects me?
ROXTON: I’m going with or without you.
MARGUERITE: You’re worried about leaving
him alone but me you’re willing to abandon. Men!
MARGUERITE: What the hell were you doing?
GIDEON: A warrior never turns from his
enemies.
ROXTON: If you have let them pass, they
wouldn’t have been our enemies!
MARGUERITE: You want to keep that
alive? Keep him away from me!
GIDEON: I have spent my whole life
preparing for this journey. I can’t
fail.
ROXTON: No! Won’t fail, that’s
determination. Can’t fail,
that’s arrogance. That’s death.
MARGUERITE: Imagine thinking that your
brother was dead and then finding out he wasn’t. I wonder what that feels like?
ROXTON: I’ll never know.
ROXTON: Dying is not an option.
GIDEON: No, it’s inevitable.
GIDEON: You think I want to die?
ROXTON: Yes! Because right now that’s easier than living. I know how that feels, Gideon. There’s a big difference between honour and
guilt.
MARGUERITE: The boy’s done us proud. They grow up so fast these days.
ROXTON: How motherly of you. I wouldn’t have thought there was a maternal
bone in your body.
MARGUERITE: How little you know me. On the other hand, why would I need children
when I have you?
