6ft 2in, Hugh Jackman was born on 12th October, 1968 in Sydney, Australia. The youngest of five children, he's a huge horror movie fan and graduated with a degree in communications from the city's University of Technology before enrolling at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

In his time he has dressed up as a clown for kiddie's parties and has even donned a koala suit - amazing really, when you consider he was voted one of 'The Most Beautiful People in the World' by People magazine in 2001.

In February 1996, he married actress Deborra-Lee Furness, who he met on his first TV acting job in, 'Corelli', an acclaimed Australian TV series where Mr.Jackman played a prisoner who falls in love with his counselor, played by Ms. Furness.

The couple have an adopted son, Oscar Maximilian Jackman, who was born on May 15, 2000.

His big break came when he starred as, Wolverine, in the recent Sci-Fi hit, 'The X-Men' and he quickly followed this up with another smash thriller, playing alongside, John Travolta, in 'Swordfish' as a computer hacker extraordinaire.

Before then, he had the lead role in the stage production of, 'Oklahoma' which showed off his admirable singing talent. He also starred in the Australian romantic comedy, 'Paperback Hero', which cast him as a tough trucker who writes romance novels but uses the pen name of his best friend, Ruby Vale, as he's embarrassed.

Last year, he co-starred with Greg Kinnear and Ashley Judd in the romantic comedy, 'Animal Attraction' and is soon to be seen in the upcoming comedy, 'Kate and Leopold'. Mr. Jackman plays a 19th-century duke who falls in love with a time-travelling modern New Yorker played by, Meg Ryan.

There is also going to be a sequel to, 'The X-Men' in which, Mr. Jackman will reprise his role as, Wolverine.
