William (Billy) Melrose heads the team of field operatives at IFF. Shrewd, level-headed and wise - nothing escapes this man that he doesn't want to let slide. Previously a field agent himself, he took the desk job when he settled down and married Jeannie, his wife.
He has worked with
Lee Stetson for years and they are good friends, even though Lee's sometimes total disregard for the rules have put him in an awkward position with superiors.His personal assistant is
Francine Desmond with whom he has a good rapport, although her cutting remarks and sometime inappropriate jokes earn her a sharp reprimand or stern look from him every now and again.It was Billy's idea to ask
Amanda King to work part-time for the Agency, much to Lee's horror. It was also his idea to team them up together on cases when he could. He saw that Amanda was resourceful, could think on her feet and had a unique way of looking at things. Having seen her potential, he counted on Lee eventually seeing it too and their alliance soon worked out better than even he could've imagined.
