Monica Geller works as a head chef in a classy restaurant. She is also an obsessive 'neat freak' who doesn't like anything in her apartment moved out of place…even slightly.
She is the younger sister of
Ross and there is a lot of rivalry between them, especially as their parents seem to think that Ross can do no wrong. Formally fat as a youngster, she trimmed down but her mother still constantly criticises her about everything, from her looks to her cooking to her love life.Monica lives in her grandmother's rent controlled apartment opposite what used to be
Chandler and Joey's place. Originally, she had Phoebe as a room mate but she moved out because of Monica's obsession with cleanliness. Monica then lived on her own until Rachel suddenly appeared back in her life and virtually forced her to take her in.She is extremely competitive and even turns a friendly game of Pictionary into all out war - she HATES to lose! This trait was shown to full affect when she bet hers and Rachel's apartment against Chandler and Joey getting rid of their pets, that she and Rachel knew more about the guys than they claimed to know about them. The girls lost and, to give her her dues, Monica was the one that was the more agreeable to move.
The girls eventually got their apartment back when they offered to "kiss for one minute". Both Chandler and Joey liked this idea and were happy to agree…and watch!
Although she can be very bossy and totally neurotic about things, she's still the most sensible of the three women and is the 'mother hen' of the group. She loves to be the hostess and will organise things until they aren't any fun for anyone else. Having said that, she gives 110% in everything she does and is the most passionate and romantic one out of the group.
Monica's love life has never been great. She tended to choose guys that wanted little more than just sex - hell, she even fancied Joey when he first appeared! In reality though, all she ever wanted, was to fall in love, get married and have children. She thought all her dreams had come true and that she'd met the love of her life when she fell in love with handsome, older man, Richard Burke, who was an old friend of her parents. Their happiness was short-lived however, and they parted when it became clear that he didn't want to have anymore kids. The break-up was mutual and amicable but it hurt them both deeply and she took a long time to get over him.
Thinking she'd never get married and have babies, she decided to visit a sperm bank. She picked out a donor but after talking to Joey, he made her realise that what she was doing wasn't right for her and gave the idea up.
She went on to date a millionaire called Pete Becker but it never really amounted to much and she split up with him when he became determined to make it as, 'The Ultimate Fighting Champion'.
Shortly after splitting with Pete, Chandler offered to be her boyfriend if "worst comes to worst". She thought he was joking and laughed it off but Chandler got upset and tried to get her to admit he was boyfriend material. That wasn't to be, as fate took an unfortunate and amusing turn of events when Monica got stung by a jellyfish at the beach. Chandler was the one who peed on her to take the pain away - after that Monica said that even though she thought he was sweet, he'd always be the guy who peed on her.
Funny how things turn out though - just a short twelve months later, she and Chandler were to begin a secret affair that started one drunken night in London while attending Ross' wedding to Emily. One year later, Chandler moved in with Monica and a year after that, he proposed and she accepted. They are now happily married and Monica has finally found the TRUE love of her life.
