FILMING RAUL

Amanda drives into the Agency parking lot and shows her ID to Scotty, the young attendant, and drives on into her space. Just then, a white car speeds into the parking lot. Scotty ducks into his booth, grabs a video camera and starts filming. The car hits the back of Amanda's car as she's getting out, smashing the tail light. The driver, Raul, gets out and she starts arguing with him. He offers her money for the damage and then spots a green car with two men in it, that has pulled up outside the lot. Ignoring her protests, he suddenly gets into his car and drives off. The green car also sets off in pursuit and one man, Levick, notices Scotty filming them.

The chase continues down the road and Scotty turns off his camera then runs over to Amanda asking if she's alright. She assures him she is but is concerned what her insurance company is going to say as she didn't get Raul's name or licence number. Scotty then tells her that he has everything on tape and explains that he's a budding film-maker. She asks for the tape and he shocks her by confessing that he has other footage on there that he wants to keep, namely of Lee, Billy and Francine.

Meanwhile, at the Agency, Lee is worrying because Raul is late for his check-in and he's carrying the Malvrin report, a document that a lot of people want to get their hands on. His bad feeling is further compounded by the fact that he got Raul the job as a courier for the Agency in the first place.

Amanda enters the bullpen and proceeds to tell Lee, Billy and Francine all about her accident. They aren't very interested until she mentions the fact that Scotty has been taping the comings and goings of people at the Agency for weeks.

Elsewhere, down a Washington alleyway, Raul, along with the documents he's carrying, is captured by Levick and his partner.

Back at the Agency, Scotty's tape has been developed and Lee, Amanda, Billy and Francine all sit down to watch it. After sitting through some embarrassing moments courtesy of Billy and Francine, the footage changes to Amanda's accident. Lee recognises the other man as Raul and when they pause on Levick's face, Lee asks for a picture to be circulated for ID. Lee then decides it's time to talk to Scotty.

Outside, Levick and his partner turn up and park across the street from the Agency lot. Levick wants to kill Raul but his partner points out that while Scotty has film of them they can't do anything. They leave their car and appraoch the lot. Masquerading as insurance inspectors, they tell Scotty that they're there following up on the accident. Scotty asks if they mean Amanda and they say yes. He lets them look over the car but then challenges them when they pull her registration documents out of the glove compartment.

They ignore him but ask for the film. Scotty tells tham that Amanda has it and then suddenly realises who they are but, before he can run away, they tackle him. They tie a gag around his mouth and then stuff him in the trunk of a car. They then decide to wait for Amanda to return.

Not long after, Lee and Amanda arrive at the parking lot looking for Scotty. Seeing that she's with someone, the two men don't approach her and decide that if she has the film now, she'll have it later.

Lee and Amanda search for Scotty and hear muffled noises coming for a car trunk. They get it open and are surprised to find it's the young man they're looking for. He tells them about the two men and then leaves to go and move some cars. Amanda begins to worry that Scotty may have told the men that she has the film, so Lee decides to find out.

Across the street, Levick and his partner drive away.

Later that day, Lee, Amanda are treating Scotty to lunch outside a café in order to find out more information. He reveals that the two men have seen Amanda registration causing her to worry even more. Lee makes his excuses and leaves to make a phone call to Billy. His boss assures him that Amanda's house is surrounded but hasn't much further news on Raul's situation apart from the fact that the two men chasing him were in a rented car. He also tells Lee that there's an APB out on the car and that the man in the film is an information broker called, Jan Levick.

Lee goes back to the table and passes two men with their backs to them. It's Levick and his partner still keeping tabs on Amanda. Scotty leaves to go wash his hands and Levick tells his friend to go and get the car while he nabs, Scotty.

Back at the table, Amanda is voicing her concern over the men having her address but Lee calms her down by explaining about her house being watched by Agency men. Suddenly, Lee spots Scotty being forced into the green car by Levick. He jumps up to try and stop them but leaves his keys on the table. Amanda calls after him and then picks the keys up and jumps into his Porsche. Unfortunately, she can't drive a manual car and the bad guys get away.

Figuring that the only thing keeping, Raul and Scotty alive, is the fact that Amanda has the tape, Lee arranges for her phone to be tapped in case they call to make a deal. That evening, Amanda's uneasiness transmits itself to, Dotty but she denies anything's the matter. She tells her mother to lock all the upstairs windows and then slips outside the back door to speak to, Lee.

He does his best to reassure her and she goes back inside. The phone rings and when she answers it, it's Scotty who tells her to do what the men ask. Levick comes on the phone and tells her to drive to fourteenth and Delaware where there's a lumber yard. She's to drop the film out of a the car window and then drive home and then Scotty would be released.

Amanda agrees and Levick hangs up then opens a trapdoor and pushes Scotty into a small, dark room. Raul is also down there and they begin to talk. When Scotty comments on a smell around the warehouse, Raul tells him that it's mushrooms.

Back at Amanda's house, she's preparing to leave. Dotty thinks she's going to meet a man and tells her that secret assignations and meaningless affairs don't work. Amanda denies everything and much to Dotty's horror, tells her she'll be back in an hour. She drives around the block and parks in front of a van. Lee gets in the pasenger side and tells her that Francine is going to make the drop while she stays in the car with him. Amanda isn't happy but finally aquiesces.

In the van, Francine is preparing her 'Amanda' look which comprises of her hair in rollers with a scarf wrapped around it and virtually no makeup.

Back in the station wagon, Amanda fills the time by telling Lee what her mother had said before she left the house. Lee laughs and tells her that her mother should know Amanda wasn't the type to have an affair. Amanda is hurt and starts to protest that you can never be sure of what someone will do in certain circumstances. While she talks, Lee spies a poplice patrol car driving by and quickly pulls her into his embrace as though they were lovers. Once the police pass, Amanda pulls away in embarrassment and Lee clears his throat as he runs his fingers through his hair uncomfortably. The awkward moment is broken when Francine knocks on the car window and Lee tells Amanda to swop coats with her.

They go to the lumber yard and Francine makes the drop. Levick's partner picks it up and places it in a padded box. The agents move in swiftly and after shots are traded he is eventually captured. He refuses to reveal where Levick is, telling them that if he doesn't return in an hour the hostages will die.

Lee returns to his car and tells Amanda the situation and that he'll take her back to her car. While they drive, Amanda goes over some of the facts and then comes up with some important information about the warehouses by the Potomac. Apparently, she was a tech advisor on a food growing project that was looking for a class of mushroom that would grow in sub-basements. Most of the warehouses in the Potomac area had these sub-basements but many were flooded and sealed off so, unless you knew they were there, you wouldn't know they were there.

Lee sees what she's getting at and calls Billy from a phone box. His boss is still trying to get information from Levick's partner and Lee tells him about the sub-basement theory and asks him to run a bluff on the guy. Billy does so and the man asks for a lawyer thus proving the theory correct. Billy tells him the good news and orders him to hold off while he gets backup.

Naturally, Lee doesn't listen and heads straight for the warehouse they'd checked that afternoon. He tells Amanda to wait in the car and goes in search of Levick. He enters the warehouse and spots his quarry but holds back, keeping an eye on his movements. He sees Levick open a trapdoor then go down the steps.

Outside, Amanda can't sit still any longer and gets out of the car, going along the same path Lee had taken earlier.

Inside, Lee follows Levick down the hole, keeping right on his tail. Amanda enters the warehouse but then takes a different direction to Lee and finds herself lost. Lee continues to trail behind Levick, who has entered a room with yet another trapdoor in the middle of the floor. He opens it up and points his gun down at the hostages, readying for the kill.

Lee jumps out of the shadows, gun in hand but Levick turns and shoots at him. Lee ducks out of the way then returns fire but Levick makes a run for it. In the meantime, Amanda has found Levick's green car. Back in the basement, Levick scrambles up the steps of the first trapdoor and runs in Amanda's direction towards his car with Lee following him cautiously. He gets in his vehicle but it won't start. Lee arrives and so does the backup, who surround the car. Lee goads Levick on the reliability of his vehicle and then laughs when Amanda suddenly appears, holding up a bunch of wires she'd pulled from the engine.

The next day, Lee is walking Amanda to her car discussing Raul. He still works for the Agency as a courier and was already on another assignment. Despite this, Lee vows never to get anyone else a job because he can't stand the guilt when things go wrong. Just then, Scotty approaches them asking if Lee liked his film. Lee compliments him on it but explains that the legal department needs his city filming permits and also wants him to get PR-308's from the people he filmed. When Scotty questions what PR-308's are, Lee and Amanda quickly think up that they stand for Personal Release forms. Scotty is dejected as he hasn't got anything like that and thanks him before walking away.

Amanda and Lee feel sorry for the young man and on the spur of the moment he offers Scotty an assignment with IFF. He tells him to do a short documentary on the Cuyahoa River in Ohio. Scotty is excited at the prospect and thanks him before running off to move some cars. Amanda then turns to Lee with a smile and points out that after all he'd said, he'd just got someone a job.

ROMANCE

Well, the one thing I've always remembered about this episode was the scene in the car. Amanda is hurt when Lee scoffs at the idea of her having a clandestine love affair. As she tries to convince him that she could be the type to indulge in that kind of thing, she stops and stares at his smiling face and you just know she's thinking, "but only if it was with you."

Then, of course, there's the memorable part where he pulls her into his arms because of the local patrol. Amanda couldn't resist the opportunity of putting her hand up to touch his face, could she? And when they eventually drew back from each other, there's a definite moment there where you think they're going to kiss.

It was so obvious that they were both affected by each other's nearness, but I have to say, for all of Lee's supposed sophistication, he didn't handle it near so well as Amanda did. While she just grinned and appeared a little shy, Lee cleared his throat, ran his hand through his hair and couldn't seem to get any words out - not anything coherant anyway. And that nervous laugh…dead giveaway!

It's just such a great scene and one that I think most people love to watch…over and over and over…I know my tape's a little thin here J

Of course, before this scene, there's the cute moment where Lee tries to make her feel better while they talk in her backyard. When he thinks she's cold and she admits that she's scared, he immediately puts his arm around her in a comforting gesture. Very sweet.

Another nice moment is when we learn that he's already arranged for Amanda's house to be protected by the Agency and then calls Billy to check up. His concern for her is touching.

I suppose the thing this episode really brings home to me, is that Lee's actions very often speak louder than words. His caring gestures and thoughtfulness for her well-being were in place long before he ever actually vocalised his feelings.

So, all in all it was quite a revealing episode, romance-wise, as we're finally given some real evidence that both Lee and Amanda have feelings for each other. About time too J

QUOTES

FRANCINE: It's funny, I never knew that coat made me look so…

AMANDA: Big. (Everyone turns to look at her) Oh, it doesn't.

AMANDA: Now, look, I don't see anybody outside, but the house is surrounded, right?

LEE: Amanda, if you see them, then the whole thing doesn't work.

LEE: What's the matter? Are you cold?

AMANDA: No, I'm a little scared. I guess I shouldn't admit that.

LEE: Hey, come on. I'm scared, too.

AMANDA: It isn't very reassuring.

LEE: Hey, come on, Amanda, look. You're going to be all right. You're protected by the best there is in the business.

AMANDA: I don't want the best there is, I want you.

DOTTY: You're making a mistake, Amanda. A man does not respect a woman that he can call on a whim!

AMANDA: It isn't what you think, Mother.

DOTTY: You are seeing a man, aren't you? These burning passions, midnight assignations, they don't work.

AMANDA: Mother, it's only eight-thirty.

DOTTY: I cannot manage your life for you. I mean, maybe you're entitled to a meaningless affair. Something passionate and fiery, with no future.

AMANDA: Maybe I am. I'll be back in an hour.

DOTTY: An hour?! One of those.

AMANDA: I did exactly what you told me to do, I stayed right here.

LEE: Oh, well, that's a refreshing change.

LEE: That's it! It's all over, Levick. Looks like you need a tuneup, pal.

AMANDA: Looks like he needs more than that. Looks like I pulled the right wires.
