Amanda and Magda get out of the car and hide behind a piece of playground apparatus. Sandor and Brobich stop their car and get out to try and find the two women. Just then a helicopter approaches, coming in low. It's Lee. He fires at the two men and Brobich grabs Francine from the car and drags her over to a wooden piece of playground apparatus where he tries to hide form Lee's bullets. Francine hits Brobich and manages to escape.
While the shooting continues, the helicopter lowers close to Amanda and Magda and Lee calls for Magda to get in. She does and the helicopter lifts. It comes back down again and Lee calls for Francine, who runs over and also climbs in. The helicopter lifts again and then it turns back to Amanda and lowers for her to run over to. Lee grabs her and the helicopter rises with Amanda dangling from the landing gear.
Mission over, Lee takes Amanda to another Embassy party because he felt bad about rushing her out of the other one and because she had to put up with a lot from Magda. Amanda is happy, but questions him about the fact that he seemed to come back for her as an 'afterthought' when he rescued them in the helicopter. Lee denies this and explains that it was the first time she was in the clear. Amanda is satisfied by his explanation but then tells him that she's caught Dotty's cold and would really rather go home. Lee then admits that he's also caught Dotty's cold and makes Amanda laugh when he reveals that Magda has also managed to catch it too.

ROMANCE
Not a great deal of actual romance played out between Lee and Amanda but we do learn more about Amanda's feelings regarding Lee. When Magda asks Amanda if she finds Lee attractive, Amanda stalls and then starts detailing his facial features one by one, commenting on what she likes best…his eyes. She gets a bit carried away and then suddenly realises what she's said and gets embarrassed. Plus, she doesn't actually deny that she has more than an admiration for Lee when asked. She just sidesteps it by saying that they have a 'professional association'.
A cute scene between the two is when they're having a conversation about Lee leaving Amanda and Magda alone at the house while he goes with Billy. Lee tells her that he'd never leave her if he thought she was in danger. It's a sweet moment and it's compunded by the fact that Amanda is straightening his tie as they talk like it's the most natural thing in the world for her to do. Lee accepts this without comment too - it just shows how much closer they're becoming without them even realising it.

AMANDA: Um…I'm, uh…
(Lee appears and puts his arm around her.)
LEE: Engaged for the evening.
AMANDA: I never dreamed things would get so complicated.
AMANDA: Mother, what is Denghi fever?
DOTTY: Oh, my God. Is that going around? I thought I was just getting a little head cold.
BILLY: Tell her I'm from the phone company.
AMANDA: Sir. I am not lying to her anymore.
BILLY: Tell her I said I'm from the phone company.
MAGDA: He's very attractive, hm?
AMANDA: Huh?
MAGDA: You don't…you don't find him attractive?
AMANDA: Oh…what, you mean feature for feature? Uh…sure, well, yes, he's, uh, got nice hair, it's not great hair, but it's nice hair, he's tall. Uh, straight nose, and uh, beautiful, beautiful, beautiful eyes. Pretty eyes, really.
(After handing a grey shawl to Magda)
AMANDA: Here, wear this.
(To herself) Over your head.
MAGDA: Why do you risk your life for me?
AMANDA: I am not risking my life for you. At least I hope I'm not.
AMANDA: You know, I just wanted to ask you a question, and it really will have nothing to do with…
(she coughs) excuse me… with our professional relationship,but…LEE: What?
AMANDA: Well, in the helicopter, first you saved Magda, then you saved Francine, and then almost as an afterthought you saved me.
LEE:
(defensively) It was not an afterthought!AMANDA: I just…you know, I felt…
LEE: It was the first time that you were in the clear.
(Amanda smiles and clinks glasses with his.)
AMANDA: See? I knew you would explain it perfectly.
AMANDA: How did you find us?
LEE: Well, I saw somebody try to drive a station wagon through a swamp.
AMANDA: And you knew…
LEE: I figured it'd be you, yes.
