Lord John Roxton (Will Snow) believes that adventure is the only thing that makes life worth living. A fearless man of few words, he treats every situation as a challenge to be met and conquered which sometimes brings him into conflict with the other members of the expedition. He was the first to join the expedition in anticipation of bagging the biggest prize of his life…a dinosaur.
Roxton was the youngest son of a lord who never expected to inherit his father's title but an awful tragedy changed all that. He and his elder brother, William, went on a safari led by a man called Pearson Rice who Roxton once aspired to be just like. Whilst out hunting, William was attacked by a great ape. Rice urged Roxton to shoot and he did…unfortunately, although he killed the ape, the bullet carried on through the animal's body and into his brother as well. As he held his dying sibling in his arms, all Rice talked about was what a great shot he'd made.
Back in England, his father never recovered from the death of his eldest son and died himself soon after, leaving Roxton as the reluctant heir to their estate at Avebury. Rice sold the story to the papers and Roxton decided to go on a long journey to heal. He stayed with Buddhist monk's in Tibet and learned their ways, but the tormenting guilt over his brother that drives him on into one dangerous adventure after another, still remains.
He recently come up against Rice while on the plateau but, after a fight, the other man was killed by a falling piece of meteor.
During the Great War, he held the rank of Major and selflessly volunteered to sacrifice his career and good name in order to protect the important triple agent, codename:'Percival', who ran the entire spy ring in England. He was later shocked to learn that 'Percival' was in fact a woman and that woman was,
Marguerite Krux!Ever since they were stranded on the plateau, the others have looked to his hunting and tracking expertise to help them get through the many life threatening situations that they regularly find themselves in. He has imparted his knowledge to the rest of the group and they are slowly becoming as tactically proficient as he.
During their time together, Roxton has become great friends with
Professor Challenger and has sworn to protect him "to Hell and back" with his life.He friendship with
Malone has developed into a brotherly type of relationship that was recently strengthened when they bonded over their past experiences of the Great War. Roxton never realised what the young reporter had gone through and it made him look at him in a whole new light which brought forth a higher level of respect from the older man.He likes
Veronica and is grateful to her for the way she took them all in and has a great respect for her as a survivor. She is as good a hunter and fighter as he and he knows that, in a fight, he can rely on her to share the burden of protecting the others. Then there's Marguerite. She frustrates the hell out of him and they're always arguing but, somewhere along the line, his attraction to her turned into a deep love. For the past three years, he constantly fought to keep his feelings for her to himself and almost treated their relationship as a game of 'who's going to admit they love the other first?'.
