John Sheridan was Captain of space station, Babylon 5 from 2259 until 2262 after which he became President of the Interstellar Alliance and commander of the Army of Light.

He was a hero in the Earth-Minbari War and served on the warship Agamemnon where he became known to the Minbari as "Star Killer" after faking a distress signal and destroying their flagship.

Sheridan took command of Babylon 5 following Jeffrey Sinclair's departure. Finding out that the new President, Clark, was corrupt, he broke away from Earth and created the Alliance which was between Babylon 5 and the other alien races.

His wife, Anna, served on an explorer class ship, The Icarus, and was presumed dead after encountering the planet known as Z'Ha'Dum. Years later, Anna reappeared after being 'taken over' by the Shadows and took Sheridan back to Z'Ha'Dum with her in a bid to turn him also. Knowing it was a trap, Sheridan used a White Star ship carrying a nuclear bomb to blow up the planet, himself included.

He came back from the dead when the 'First One' himself gave Sheridan some of his own lifeforce that would last for twenty years and then one day he'd just 'stop'.

Already romantically involved with Ambassador Delenn of the Minbari, they eventually marry after living through one war with the Shadows and one with Earth itself and have a son called David.

When his twenty years are up, Sheridan calls all his old friends together for one last dinner before he flies away by himself back to where Z'Ha'Dum once was and the First One comes and takes him over the Rim.
