'The Lost World' TV series is based on Sir Arthur Conan's Doyle famous book of the same name. Now in its third season, the show's storylines just keep getting better and better and are moving more and more to character driven episodes. Very good fun and producing some sterling acting from all the leads, it's rapidly becoming one of my favourite shows of all times.

Here's what its all about...

Professor George Challenger is a scientist who's looking to make a great discovery. While on an expedition, a fatally injured man stumbles into his camp and dies. Challenger finds the deceased man's notes and drawings and is amazed to see that they point to the existence of a mysterious plateau deep in the Amazon that supposedly supports pre-historic life.

A month later, he produces these findings to the Zoological Society in London but is laughed at. Annoyed, he challenges anyone to help him form an expedition and go and see if this 'Lost World' truly exists.

Among the men assembled is renowned hunter and adventurer, Lord John Roxton. Looking for the biggest trophy of his life, he readily accepts Challenger's proposal. Also offering to join them is, Ned Malone, an American reporter who's seeking the story of his lifetime.

The Society then request that fellow Professor, Arthur Summerlee, also goes on the journey. He is well known for being skeptical of Challenger's theories and they believe he would provide an objective report on any findings.

The final person to join the explorers is a beautiful, mysterious and wealthy woman called, Marguerite Krux. She offers to fund the trip on the condition that she goes with them.

They set out for the plateau and as they reach their destination, they are attacked by hostile natives. They use the hot air balloon they set up to make their escape and fly up to the very top of the plateau where they get caught up in a terrifying storm during which they crash into a tree.

As the adventurers try and make the best of the strange, dangerous land they find themselves in, they are befriended by a young woman called, Veronica Layton, who claims to have lived alone on the plateau for the past eleven years - ever since her explorer parents went missing while out collecting specimens.

She takes them back to her treehouse and there they stay while they desperately try and find a way off of the plateau. Each day brings a new adventure or trial they have to work together to defeat; hostile tribes, dinosaurs, witches, supernatural occurrences...everything that goes to make up the wonderful, frightening and magical place that is, 'The Lost World'.
