GAMBIT: I bet if it came to selling your grandmother or doing the job; it would be bye, bye, Granny.

STEED: You know the rules.

GAMBIT: You break he rules faster and more often than anyone I know.

STEED: Not that rule, never that rule.

SPELLMAN: Give her my love.

PURDEY: Will do.

PURDEY LEAVES

GAMBIT: Give who your love?

SPELLMAN: Purdey’s mother. She’s going home for a few days, that’s why the rush.

GAMBIT: You’ve met her mother?

SPELLMAN: Oh yes, marvellous woman. Fun, but beautiful. Course then she’d have to be wouldn’t she? GAMBIT JUST STARES BACK AT HIM You haven’t had your feet under that table yet. Well, you know Purdey, she’s very discriminating.

GAMBIT: Do you know, you and I have never faced each other?

STEED: You’re too young to die, Gambit. Besides, I never fight fair.

TOMMY: Could you beat him?

STEED: Well, I wouldn’t like to put it to the test, he’s a very tough man.

TOMMY: But if you had to?

STEED: I don’t have to, do I?

TOMMY: I think I’d bet on you.

TOMMY: Would you kill him? If you were ordered to, if it was necessary, would you kill him?

STEED: I don’t like that kind of joke.

PURDEY: He won’t do it. He’ll never agree to that. Steed’s a pro, through and through.

GOON: We’ll see.

PURDEY: He’s steel…no…teak…inflexible. He won’t do it.

GOON: I hope he does, for your sake.

GAMBIT: Fancy a drink?

STEED: No, thank you. I’m in a bit of a rush.

GAMBIT: Have to rescue a beautiful damsel in distress?

STEED: Something like that.

STEED: Alright, it’s Purdey; they’ve got her. Those papers are the price.

GAMBIT: Yes, that would be your last card. Use Purdey against me.

TO AN UNCONSCIOUS GAMBIT AFTER KNOCKING HIM OUT

STEED: I did warn you. I never fight fair.

MCKAY: You got him?

GAMBIT: No, I did not get him. He got me!

MCKAY: But you were prepared. You knew.

GAMBIT: Yes! But I was me and he was Steed.

PURDEY: Steed, you know it’s a trap.

STEED: Yeah, I gathered that.

PURDEY: You’ve got a chance, Steed, run!

STEED: Desert a lady in distress? My scout master would turn in his grave.

PURDEY: Allied attack plans! But this is the genuine article.

GAMBIT: Break all the rules, but not that rule.

STEED: I wasn’t sure what they had in mind.

PURDEY: You mean, you were prepared to hand these over for me?

STEED: Its only paper. You’re Purdey.

PURDEY: (hugging him) Steed.

STEED: Can you do me a favour? (she nods) Can you square things away with Susie? She thinks I’m inordinately fond of you.

PURDEY WALKS OVER TO PHONE AND LOOKS AT GAMBIT

GAMBIT: Silly, deluded girl.
