VAUXHALL VIVA HB

1969, Vauxhall Viva HB, SL

This is the first classic Mark and I bought together. She's a 1969, SL, Vauxhall Viva HB. Originally, she was white but since she needed a little bit of work we decided to respray her Triumph Inca Yellow.

We've had her for about 8 or 9 years now and have taken her to many classic car shows. All panels are original and she's done just under 48,000 miles from new.

In 2003 we took her on the London to Brighton run where Stirling Moss was at Brooklands Motor Museum flagging the cars off at the start.

There we were, ready to go, engine revved, picture taken, the flag went down…and Mark stalled!

Yep, slightly embarrassing.

Still, at least we made it to Brighton. Some poor chap in a Rover pulled off and we heard the gearbox crunch.

"That sounded nasty," we said with a wince. Apparently it was because he didn't even manage to get out of Brooklands grounds!

Ah, the joys of classic cars. Wouldn't trade them for the word J
